The importance of good quality hospital food should not be underestimated. Often it is the details that build up patient experience and low value nutrition can considerably affect satisfaction with the NHS.
Voluntary recommendations have simply not had the desired affect, and have cost the Government a significant amount of money for little progress.
Introducing food standards for hospitals would demonstrate the DH’s acknowledgement of the need for good quality nutrition. With headlines still screaming about the horse-meat scandal, this is extremely pertinent.
