Putting the patient first
OCCG is launching a different approach to commissioning, shifting the focus from quantity to quality, and ensuring patients are at the centre of the new NHS.
Providing good healthcare should not stop as soon as patients are discharged from hospital, and realigning incentives could go a long way to securing a more holistic way of working.
It will be incredibly difficult to change a system that has been in use for so long, but opening up the priorities for commissioning will also allow more innovation – something vital when there are huge efficiency savings to be made.
