Rationing is real
Rationing within the NHS is an uncomfortable truth, and no doubt it is far easier for the Department of Health to deny any such thing takes place.
And the Government was quick to point out how much the NHS budget had increased, and vowed to take action against trusts if they stopped patients having treatments on the basis of cost alone.
The trouble is, this is not a problem we should be prepared for in the future – it is happening right now. Indeed the cuts in spending and huge amount to save by 2015 make such rationing almost inevitable.
Patients receive different care and different treatment depending on where they are in the country. This must stop, but to tackle such a difficult issue, facing up to the facts must take precedence to action.
