Students become the teachers
School nurses will be trained on how to support child carers adequately by the children themselves. Part of a new Department of Health programme to expand and improve the role of school nurses, it could allow nurses to better identify and care for the most vulnerable students.
Many young carers go completely unnoticed by their teachers, despite the responsibility often leading to poorer academic performance, health issues and bullying.
Involving the users of this service in its conception and development is a great idea – they are the ones who know exactly what pressure they are under and how they could be better supported to manage it.
