Surgeon on leave
David Nunn, the surgeon who interrupted a recent hospital visit by David Cameron and Nick Clegg, has requested leave. It is not known when he will return.
Mr. Nunn objected to the presence of a television crew who were not following the correct dress code to be allowed in the hospital. Staff had been instructed not to talk to the media by the NHS trust.
A Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust spokeswoman said: "Consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr David Nunn is currently on leave. As is usual practice, the care of his patients will be managed by his colleagues.”
Cameron treated the incident lightly, and explained the situation: "Obviously, for some reason, the consultant hadn't been told a visit was taking place, and he was, quite fairly, concerned about levels of hygiene – not amongst the politicians; we had all wiped our hands and rolled up our sleeves. I think he was a bit more worried about some of the people who were filming us."
The Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister both had their sleeves rolled up and had removed their ties, as had Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, but the camera crew did not adhere to the hospital policy.
