Targets and gags
The latest furore over whistleblowing is making it more and more critical for the health service to let these staff voice their safety concerns, and to eliminate the practice of gagging clauses that forces so many to keep quiet.
There’s also a message for the Government, on how effective their waiting times targets are. Is the larger issue with staff mishandling these targets, at the cost of patient safety, or is it more that the targets themselves are mis-set?
There has been growing evidence that both factors need to be addressed, and soon.
