That’s rich
Contractor GPs are making an average £105,300 a year, compared to salaried GPs on £57,300 before tax.
A hefty group of 700 contractor GPs are on more than £200,000 – and 250 more than £250,000. The figures come from the NHS Information Centre.
The pay gap between contractor and salaried GPs does seem to be shrinking slightly, mostly because of the increasing cost of practice expenses for partners.
Patients’ associations are keen to get pay reined in to protect spending elsewhere in the NHS – with bonuses and out-of-hours cover payments going up, do they have a point?
