The perils of over and under-sharing
Jeremy Hunt has responded to the Caldicott review, making it clear that patients will be able to give their say on how they want their data to be used.
The review attempts to strike a balance between the importance of sharing patient information to advance care and protecting individual confidentiality.
Patients will be able to stop their data being shared, Hunt has assured. But whilst this is good news in principle, it may be more difficult to enforce in practice. How will the NHS support the public into making this decision themselves and to respect their wishes should they choose to keep their details private?
