Think twice
The Government has been warned once more about the limited effectiveness of antibiotics, with the Chief Medical Officer highlighting our dwindling defences against new infections.
Placing the need for more careful prescription, greater immunisation and vaccination on the National Risk Register would clearly spell out the level of danger we face.
Unfortunately, while many of the public will know of the risks of overusing antibiotics, or using them incorrectly, the immediate consequences are not serious enough to dissuade them from doing so.
Launching a concerted public campaign to minimise use of our current stock, whilst investing in the development of new drugs, could be vital to our future safety.
