Trying to please everyone?
Jeremy Hunt seems damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t, following his decision to implement all but one of the main recommendations from special administrator Matthew Kershaw.
Not even the campaign, Save Lewisham Hospital, is happy with the result – it gets to keep 75% of its capacity in the department, but mainly to cater for the frail and elderly with less serious emergencies.
The campaign is to keep fighting to ensure the whole A&E department is saved.
And Hunt has been criticised by Julia Manning, from 2020health, who suggests that treating Kershaw’s recommendations like a ‘pick and mix’ will only lead to higher cost – both financial and human – in the long term.
