‘Voice of common sense’ trust CEO to step down in summer
The NHS’s “voice for common sense,” Dame Julie Moore, has announced her intention to retire from her post as chief executive of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS FT in the summer.
Moore has been in charge at the foundation trust for 12 years, during which time she oversaw several major changes, including one of the largest NHS mergers between her provider and the Heart of England NHS FT.
Announcing the news on Twitter, she said she has been “privileged to work with wonderful teams,” but has decided it is time to move on.
Her post attracted an outpour of support from members of the healthcare sector and beyond. Richard Kirby, CEO of Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS FT, said the retirement was well deserved but regretted that they wouldn’t have more time to work together on delivering integrated care.
Paul Roberts, the joint chief executive of 2gether NHS FT and Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust, added that Moore has made an “outstanding contribution” to her foundation trust generally and the NHS as a whole.
“You will be missed,” he continued. “I hope you will still find a way to make a contribution to the NHS in other ways!”
The chair of NHS Providers, Dame Gill Morgan, called Moore a great leader and “one of the stars of her generation.”
“She has been an influential voice for common sense and for the NHS, never afraid to speak out when things were wrong. She took her clinical learning and experiences as a former nurse to focus on what matters to patients,” Morgan added.
“She will be missed locally and nationally and we wish her well in her future endeavours.”
