Prescription fraud costs NHS Suffolk nearly £2 million

Figures released by NHS Suffolk have shown that last year the cost to the trust of fraudulent free prescriptions was £1.9 million.

The trust’s counter fraud specialist Wendy Boother told the BBC: "Many people are entitled to claim a free prescription, sight test or dental treatment due to their age or because they have a specific medical condition or are on a low income.

"However, some people who claim are not entitled to do so.

"In some cases people may have made a genuine mistake. In other cases it is a deliberate attempt to avoid paying the charges."
