Health minister announces new code of conduct for data-driven technology within the NHS
Health minister James O’Shaughnessy has today announced a new code of conduct for data-driven technology, outlining the benefit it can bring to the NHS by improving patient care and freeing up clinicians’ time.
Speaking at the Health and Care Innovation Expo in Manchester this morning, Lord O’Shaughnessy spoke about using technology to deliver personalised medicine and the new code of conduct for artificial intelligence.
Lord O’Shaughnessy said the industry using the code of conduct will deepen trust between patients, clinicians, and innovators; and highlighted the importance of highly-personalised medicine and care.
The code of conduct will initially be voluntary for organisations to sign up to.
Lord O’Shaughnessy said: “The technologies we have and the rate at which they are developing are finally putting them within our reach.”
On Monday, The Royal of College of Physicians issued its recommendations for the use of artificial intelligence within the NHS.
The organisation urged doctors to appraise the technology, regulators to develop guidance and evaluation methods, and for the industry as a whole to address real-world challenges.
