NHS Confederation: Retaining Health Secretary ensures no let-up

Matt Hancock was one of the surviving faces following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Cabinet reshuffle, remaining in his role as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

The retention of Mr Hancock as Health Secretary has been viewed as a positive by the NHS Confederation, who see it as an opportunity to ensure there is no let-up in helping the NHS respond to the challenges it faces.

Niall Dickson, Chief Executive of the NHS Confederation, said: ““We welcome Matt Hancock continuing in his role as Health and Social Care Secretary.

“He is familiar with the many challenges facing the NHS and will ensure there is no let-up in helping the NHS to respond to worrying staff shortages, underinvestment in capital spending, the need for pensions reform and the growing social care crisis.

“These are the big issues that need solving for the benefit of patients.

“With a strong majority and continuity of leadership, there is no excuse for the government to not bring forward proposals for reforming social care at the earliest opportunity. We look forward to working with the secretary of state and his colleagues to take this forward.”
