£800m cancer cash must be money well-spent
An £800m cash boost for the fight against cancer, we are told.
Early testing makes sense – some more cash for awareness campaigns make sense – the Cancer Drugs Fund undermines NICE, but it is extra money that will undoubtedly save and prolong lives.
It is all good news and in the growth years would have been nothing but. But in these days of freezes and retrenchment, it is hard not to think of the countless other parts of the NHS that desperately need more money and this kind of focused attention. Let’s just hope this £800m goes exactly where it is needed.
