MPs are raising questions over the decision for Atos to contract an NHS body to carry out assessments for disability benefit.
If Salus, NHS Lanarkshire’s occupational health arm, is the best placed organisation to conduct medical consultations that determine the level of benefit people receive, then why were they not contracted directly by the DWP?
And if they are not, then why isn’t Atos doing the work itself?
Atos has long been attacked for its accuracy on medical assessments, so it would seem more likely that the former is the case; which highlights a convoluted procurement path that could be costing the taxpayer.
