One more time?
The threat of further doctors’ strikes is looming large, though industrial action yesterday saw less disruption than had been originally expected.
The public have not been sympathetic to the doctors’ ‘plight’, especially when it affects patient care, and more action could strain relations.
But the BMA’s position is no closer to accepting the Government’s stance – ministers don’t seem set to budge.
The reforms may be unpopular and even unfair to those they directly affect, but a wider view of the health service and the greater population indicates that change of some kind is necessary.
Certainly a shift in position is needed to facilitate more effective negotiation on this issue and avoid further industrial action.
