Community action
The new initiative ‘Healthwatch-Communities Involved’ could have a considerable impact on local people’s ability to influence health and social care services in their area.
With the changing NHS, individuals will have the chance to shape services to their needs and circumstances – but this will only work if enough people can access Healthwatch.
Greater awareness of the coming changes is needed, and enthusiasm from communities to take the initiative and speak up.
Will this new drive help push this forward? It could be argued that those who would benefit most from having their perspective heard are the very ones who are least likely to know about this campaign, or the reforms, or any of the opportunities available to make a difference.
