Protecting all in pregnancy
Sensitive issues are being raised today concerning the dangers involved in relocating pregnant asylum seekers.
The UKBA has been criticised for moving women away from partners and vital NHS treatment, as well as multiple relocations and moves too close to their due dates.
While the report only considers the experience of a small sample of women, it does present a worrying picture of the treatment of asylum seeking mothers.
These women are often in desperate need of healthcare, and uncoordinated relocations could seriously damage their chances of recovery. Greater coordination with health and social care services, as well as aiming to protect families as far as possible, must be a priority for Government.
