The Government has set a date for integrated care to become the norm; an ambitious target that seeks to address a longstanding problem with the NHS.
The system has been gearing up towards providing more coordinated services in recent years, but there is still a very long way to go. Will the commitment announced today go far enough to support the relevant organisations to deliver tangible change for patients?
Creating a deadline for this work may ask too much of a system that is struggling to adjust to dramatic reform and rising demand. But the very existence of this deadline could provide the necessary motivation to really get integration up and running.
