The test is coming
It will be vitally important that the coalition government ensures that NHS services serve the public well this winter.
Any little slip up in services will undoubtedly be jumped on by the coalition’s political and ideological opponents - and blamed on NHS reforms, amongst other pressures.
This is why this winter will prove so important to public confidence in both the coalition government and also the NHS itself.
There a lot of mixed messages coming from the medical community at the moment at a time when the NHS should be giving out one clear message to the public it serves, which is: We will cope, no matter what.
