The new strategy launched by the Government to prevent suicide will bring a taboo subject out into the light for the first time in too many years.
The more organisations and families that get involved in work to prevent suicide, the more effective this strategy will be.
As the National Suicide Prevention Strategy Advisory group acknowledged, the key is a broad focus, which seeks to understand the wide range of factors and circumstances which can lead people to choose suicide.
Such knowledge can help to target prevention so that it is more compassionate, as well as more effective.
