Waves crashing?
The second wave of CCGs have now been authorised, bringing the health service another step closer to the complete handover on 1 April.
This time more organisations were authorised without conditions, but there are also now three which are being authorised with “intensive support”. Does this suggest that, given more time, certain CCGs would fail the rigorous testing process?
Regardless of the amount of criteria they meet – or not, as the case may be – CCGs are being pushed through to take responsibility for a huge amount of money and thousands of patients.
Of course, they will be fully supported by the NHS Commissioning Board. And the time limit for NHS reforms is necessary, to minimise the disruption to staff and services and maintain the momentum of change.
Yet there may still be concerns that this process is being rushed.
