Woman who has suffered nine miscarriages complains about IVF decision

An NHS trust has had a formal complaint made against it for refusing a second round of IVF treatment by a woman who has suffered nine miscarriages and a stillbirth.

The woman, Deborah Harris, has alleged that the trust has refused her appeal to be given a second round of IVF treatment was refused before a letter from her doctor, which supported her decision, was received by the trust. The trust vehemently denies this accusation.

Mrs Harris told the Bristol Evening Post: “ On February 15, paperwork shows that the appeal hearing was refused. But a letter was stamped as being received by the trust two days later and a return letter to my doctor stated that it had been passed to the director of commissioning for consideration as part of the appeal.

“This is in spite of the fact that the decision had been made the day before my doctor's letter was received. This letter was clearly not taken into account into the decision whether or not to grant an appeal, as it had not been received at the time the decision was made.”
