DH publishes details for tariff-led approach to training
Details on the implementation of tariffs for education and training in the NHS have been published.
A tariff-led approach will enable a national approach to funding of all clinical placements and postgraduate medical programmes, and support a level playing filed between providers.
Tariffs for non-medical and undergraduates’ training will be in place for secondary care from 1 April 2013, and for post-graduates it will be in place by 1 April 2014.
To avoid destabilisation, the principles have been agreed to limit losses on providers. Those gaining funding through the introduction of tariffs will do so in a phased way.
The DH and Health Education England (HEE) will give final approval of the transition plans for 2014-15 later this year, after SHAs and local education and training boards (LETBs) share the proposed 2014-15 transition plans with providers so they can plan for the additional changes in income associated with the postgraduate medical tariffs.
