Former King’s Fund CEO Sir Chris Ham to chair Coventry and Warwickshire STP
Professor Sir Chris Ham, the outgoing chief executive of The King’s Fund, is to take up the role of independent chair of ‘Better Health, Better Care, Better Value’ – Coventry and Warwickshire’s sustainability and transformation partnership (STP).
Sir Chris will start his new role in January 2019 after announcing his resignation from The King’s Fund back in March. He had been at the think tank since 2010 after replacing NHS Confederation boss Niall Dickson and will be succeeded by Richard Murray, the current director of policy, in January.
Coventry and Warwickshire’s local authorities and NHS bodies have partnered up to form the STP in an effort to provide better health and care services, with prevention and understanding communities at the centre of its ethos.
Professor Andy Hardy, CEO at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, said: “I’m thrilled someone of Professor Sir Chris Ham’s calibre will be joining Better Health, Better Care, Better Value as independent chair in the new year.
“Chris Ham brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Coventry and Warwickshire and will play an essential role as we look to integrate services more closely across our health and care system.”
The incoming chair said: “We all want to see strong health and care services for local people and I’m really looking forward to using my experience to support Better Health, Better Care, Better Value across Coventry and Warwickshire.”
Sir Chris has been emeritus professor of health policy and management at the University of Birmingham since 1992 and has also worked in an advisory role with the World Health Organization and the World Bank.
Between 2000 and 2004 he was seconded to the Department of Health as director of the strategy unit where he worked on NHS reform, a subject he has been heavily involved with and spoke to NHE about in an interview last year.
