Best orthopaedic surgery in independent sector – NHSPN
Eight of the top ten providers of knee replacement surgery are from the independent sector, an analysis of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) data shows.
The figures, published by the NHS Partners Network (NHSPN), also show that seven of the top 10 for hip replacement surgery are from the independent sector.
The PROMs data considers how surgery has improved patients’ quality of life.
Independent providers now deliver 19% of all hip and knee surgery and are treating more and more NHS patients, in both Independent Sector Treatment Centres (ISTCs) and private hospitals.
David Worskett, chief executive of the NHSPN, said: “This data clearly shows that independent sector providers deliver some of the highest quality orthopaedic care for NHS patients.
“Hip and knee replacements are two of the most commonly performed orthopaedic procedures and they can significantly improve the quality of life for patients. It is important that this data is available so that patients and their GPs can make informed decisions about where to go for treatment.
“The quality of clinical care is crucial, and this data, drawn from the NHS PROMS database, clearly shows that the independent sector delivers very high standards NHS care, seen from the patients' perspective.”
