Care home inspectors to be accredited
The UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) is running a pilot assessment programme for the accreditation of care home inspectors, to boost standards of care.
Participants will be assessed against standard ISO/IEC 17020:2012, which sets out general criteria for impartiality, competence and performance capability. Inspectors are invited to join the assessment programme.
Lal Ilan, development manager, UKAS said: “One of the key objectives of the pilot programme is to verify the appropriateness of the standards used for inspection and their application in the inspection of care homes. The objectives and terms of the pilot project will be discussed with key stakeholders and those organisations expressing an interest to participate in the pilot programme.
“On satisfactory completion of the UKAS assessment process, successful applicants will be accredited to the internationally recognised ISO/IEC 17020 standard. This will provide a clear market differentiator to accredited organisations that perform inspections of residential adult social care providers and help generate confidence in the standards and quality of care.”
