Criteria published for AMHP learning

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) has published learning criteria for approved mental health professionals (AMHPs).

The new criteria set out the processes and procedures that education providers must have in place to deliver AMHP training, as well as the knowledge and skills AMHP staff should achieve.

The HCPC will approve and monitor AMHP programmes against the criteria, which include effective management, regular monitoring and evaluation, an adequate number of staff and practice placements integral to the programme.

Michael Guthrie, director of policy and standards said: “The criteria were developed with the input of key stakeholders including education providers, individual professionals, employers and service users.

“We have revised the criteria as a result of the public consultation and we are very grateful to all stakeholders for the feedback we received.”
