DH told to clarify position on senior NHS pay increases
The body responsible for making salary recommendations for senior public sector staff has been excluded from the decision-making process for the NHS this year.
The Review Body on Senior Salaries, which usually makes recommendations on pay for very senior NHS managers, said in their 38th Annual Report on Senior Salaries that they were told by the Department of Health not to review the pay framework for NHS managers this year, and have not been able to work with QCG Ltd, the company now carrying out the review.
They also said that the Department of Health have failed to provide an explanation for why they are introducing the 1% pay increase this year, which they first recommended for very senior managers in 2014.
They called on the Department of Health to clarify what pay increase, if any, very senior NHS managers will receive this year, and to hold back funding to provide an award next year if the 1% pay increase is not awarded.
