First chief digital officer appointed to CQC ahead of ‘ambitious programme of digital transformation’
The CQC has appointed its first chief digital officer, who will have the responsibility of transforming core IT services and driving digital innovation within the health inspectorate.
Mark Sutton will join the CQC’s board and executive team in April, taking on the role after leaving the educational charity Teach First where he held the position of technology director.
Sutton has over 20 years of senior IT management experience in financial services, insurance, retail, healthcare and not-for-profit organisations and working at AIG, the London Metal Exchange, and Mothercare.
The CQC’s chief executive Ian Trenholm stated that it has an “ambitious programme of digital transformation ahead” and said Sutton’s experience and track record delivering improvements to core IT services will be “absolutely invaluable” in delivering this.
Trenholm added: “The role of chief digital officer is an important addition to our executive team and Board in an area critical to our strategic plans.
“I look forward to working with Mark so that we can continue to deliver our purpose in a rapidly changing health and care sector.”
Sutton himself said: “I am really looking forward to joining the team at CQC as chief digital officer.
“Through digital innovation, we have a real opportunity to drive positive change and enhance the vital work we do with providers and the public.
“By streamlining technology, we'll not only make working life better for our colleagues, but make every aspect of the work we do more efficient too.”
