Free access to online learning for NHS trusts, employees and their families

Words provided by Skillsoft, editorially reviewed by National Health Executive

In the midst of this unprecedented global health crisis, we all owe so much to the courage and dedication of NHS staff. We are all impacted by these challenging times and we all must rise to meet them. Skillsoft is doing its part by offering free learning and training services to all NHS staff and their families.

Discovering the power of online eLearning

As we all adapt to the ‘new normal’ with limited - or no - physical access to schools, colleges or universities, technology tools and platforms are enabling continuous access to learning content.

Skillsoft is working hard to continuously innovate and evolve to meet the needs of learners whatever their goals, circumstances or aspirations. People access learning for many reasons - to gain knowledge, to find support, to reflect on practice.  Skillsoft is always looking ahead to ensure it is providing courses that deliver value by offering unique, authoritative and compelling content that is relevant, entertaining, useful and - most importantly - satisfies one of the Five Moments of Need:

  1. New: when you use something for the first time
  2. More: when you want learn more about a subject
  3. Apply: when you apply what you’ve learned
  4. Solve: when you encounter a problem
  5. Change: when you need to do something in a different way

Many NHS Trusts already take advantage of Skillsoft’s online eLearning service to help their employees enhance and acquire new commercial skills. Whilst we understand that front-line staff can’t spare a single moment for learning right now, Skillsoft is hoping its service might be of value to their families, many of whom could be spending long periods on their own, whilst their loved ones are making huge sacrifices to save lives.

An award-winning, easy to use platform

Skillsoft is offering its award-winning eLearning platform and content, to all staff and their household family members for the duration of this global crisis. A simple registration process enables users to take advantage of the company’s vast library of Business & Technology Courseware, eBooks, Audio Books, Videos, and hands-on Practice Labs. Skillsoft is confident there is something that everyone can learn from its offering, be it a technical discipline like Software Coding or Accountancy; how to build macros in Excel or a soft skill such as Time Management.

Skillsoft’s platform is intuitive and simple to use. It is modeled on the consumer web experiences people have come to expect with a simple interface, personalised playlists and one-click access to content. Think Netflix, for example. The platform also caters to people’s busy schedules by delivering micro-learning (three to five minute videos) plus a mobile app so learning can happen anywhere, anytime, and on any device.

There will be no cost and no restrictions on access to the service for the duration of offer. Simply put, this is Skillsoft’s way of saying “Thank You” to everyone in the extended NHS family for the heroic service you are providing to this country.
