Mixed picture on NHS executive pay
Average chief executive salaries fell by 0.8% at hospital trusts in 2010-11, according to new research.
Incomes Data Services (IDS) obtained data from 408 NHS trusts and boards, showing that pay for hundreds of executives on the boards of 228 hospital and mental health trusts rose by an average of 1.6%.
One in five hospital trust chief executives was paid more than £200,000 in 2010-11, up an average of 28% on 2006 – compared to 19% for nurses.
The highest paid was Jan Filochowski of West Hertfordshire Hospitals trust, who received £282,500 including a bonus for the previous year.
Average chief executive salaries were highest in the North East (£193,450), but much lower in the South West, where the average was £144,859.
