NHS Confederation: Shielding the NHS is a priority

Following strict guidance relating to the coronavirus outbreak being introduced by the Prime Minister, Chief Executive of the NHS Confederation, Niall Dickson, has called for us to protect our national healthcare service.

As Mr Dickson explains, the number one priority for now is shielding the NHS so that it is capable of providing the necessary care to those who need it most and save lives.

He predicted tough times ahead for healthcare providers, which will require significant collaboration and effort to overcome.

Mr Dickson said: “[These measures] must be about shielding the NHS so it can save lives – that has to be the number one priority.

“Our members are bracing themselves for the greatest challenge the health service has faced in its 70-year history. The government has set the right course; it is now up to all of us to follow the medical advice and do everything we can to reduce the impact, especially on the vulnerable.

“Staff will be under enormous pressure and we need to make sure they have all the resources they need. We will be working with senior leaders throughout the service including with HR teams to support the NHS workforce through these dark times.”
