Patient Feedback Challenge winners to start work

Nine patient experience projects are set to launch, following selection as winners of the Patient Feedback Challenge. The challenge was created and managed by the NHS Institute and is funded by the Department of Health.

The one year programme seeks to find and spread good approaches using feedback from patients to improve services. The nine projects will use a £1m fund and run until March 2013.

The best projects will be put into practice from September 2012, and initiatives will continue after the initial launch.

Paul Streets, director of public and patient experience and engagement, DH said: “Competition for the feedback challenge award was extremely high and we had some tough decisions to make.

“The expert panel, which made recommendations to the programme steering group, were vital in helping us decide which bids are most suitable for funding.

“We have selected nine projects that have proven methods of using feedback to improve patient experience, and have detailed plans for how they will spread this excellent practice.”

Lynne Maher, director for Innovation and Design, NHS Institute, said: “We are really excited about the potential of these projects, many have formed interesting cross-sector partnerships and there is a fantastic diversity of both feedback technique and care setting.

“All of the projects focus on using feedback to directly improve the experience for patients and their families.”

The chosen projects are:

Valuing Frontline Feedback - Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust

Patient Partners - Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust

Patient and Family Echo - East Cheshire NHS Trust

Both Sides Now - NHS North East London and the City

Improving Healthcare Together- Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Creating and Organisation that Values, Listens and Responds - Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

Kinda Magic - Peninsula Community Health CIC

Real Time Patient Stories - South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
