Manchester University NHS FT raises £2.1m funds for new centre

Manchester Royal Infirmary is set to benefit from a brand new, state-of-the-art £2.1m Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism Centre after the funds were charitably raised by the hospital’s trust charity, the Manchester Foundation Trust Charity.

As the charity arm of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, it sought to help improve the health outcomes of the North West and through the generosity of its supporters has been able to assist in the transformation of diabetes care across the region.

The new charity-funded centre, which has now been officially opened, features areas dedicated to education, patient information and specialist nursing. It is a significant advancement from the hospital’s old site and will make a major difference to both staff and patients.

Diabetes care can for many require a complex range of treatments and a diverse programme of care, with the level of engagement between the patient and clinical services a key determining factor between a patient living well with the disease or suffering avoidable and serious health implications.

Manchester Foundation Trust Charity launched the Diabetes Appeal to provide the clinical teams at Manchester Royal Infirmary with facilities which could match both the advances in diabetes care and the specialist services they provide.

The appeal’s success has enabled the relocation of diabetes and endocrinology services into a new, spacious and patient-friendly building, providing the clinical teams with a world-class facility which allows the service to provide fully integrated care.
