UK EMT qualification not recognised
Source: Lenny Reddy
Hello Flavio, I understand where you are coming from. It is absolutely ridiculous the way the UK system works. I am a South African. Worked for the State Emergency Medical Rescue Services whilst in SA for 15 years, have an Intermediate Life Support and Advanced Rescue Technician Qualification and various other complementary courses.
I arrived in the UK in 2004 and had the same problems you are experiencing. Even though my Intermediate Life Support qualification is much higher than the UK EMT qualification (allows me to do much more than basic interventions like Cannulation, IO) nobody wanted to recognise it – not even the HPCUK. I eventually started the part-time Paramedic course with the Open University, which I did not complete, only to find out after a year it was not recognised in SA.
The SA BTEC Degree is recognised worldwide, US, Canada and so on and not the UK one. So I dropped out. However, get in touch with a company called FTS Solutions. Do you have a Degree or Diploma? or just short courses. You might be able to convert it with the HPCUK if not definitely try FTS Solutions. They will assist you with having your qualifications converted to the level you are trained to. I hope this helps. Let me know if there's any other info you need?
