Release full market value against surplus and decommissioned assets

Oliver Pearson, sales director, British Medical Auctions, asks whether providers are getting the most from their decommissioned and surplus medical equipment.

There is no getting away from the fact that the NHS is under continuing budgetary constraints. Individual hospitals and departments have been required year on year to reduce expenditure and do more with less. Improving equipment lifecycle management is now more important than ever before.

Looking at the options for equipment disposal, are healthcare providers getting the best, if any, value for their surplus and decommissioned assets? Disposal options range from physically disposing as waste to selling direct to buyers or offering for sale via auction. As part of the improved lifecycle management of equipment, a more considered asset disposal route could generate revenue for healthcare providers and work towards increased sustainability within the service. Once a disposal route has been decided, how are trusts managing the transfer of liability of equipment, and how is equipment that contains data being handled? How are trusts managing the anonymity of equipment once it leaves their estate?

British Medical Auctions is the UK’s most dynamic and fastest-growing medical auction house, formed by a team of professionals with over 40 years experience of both the medical equipment and the online and offline auction industry. British Medical Auctions deals with all surplus, obsolete, end-of-line and decommissioned medical equipment from all healthcare environments. Being fully dedicated to the management of equipment from the healthcare environment, allows for a partnership with clients to provide a cost effective and personalised remarketing solution for all equipment to the global market.

British Medical Auctions offers free independent valuations to ascertain a fair market value for single items of equipment through to an entire medical facility. We can liaise with clients for an on-site equipment appraisal and preparation of a full inventory. Our collection teams are experienced in the removal of specialised medical equipment with vehicles suited for all types of collections. They will remove your inventory discreetly with minimal disruption and with nothing to pay in advance.

We provide a full inventory service and remove all identification, asset tag labels and, if required, can securely erase data following MHRA guidance, prior to cataloguing for inclusion in our monthly auction. British Medical Auctions provide a waiver and release from liability from the point of collection releasing supplying organisations of all ongoing liability.

Upon collection of your medical equipment, it is taken directly to our secure 10,000 square feet storage facility at our premises in Aldershot in Hampshire, where it will be logged into our state-of-the-art auction system. Prior to sale all equipment is power-on tested, photographed and clearly described ready for cataloguing online. Specialised Medical Equipment Auctions are held live in-house at the comfortable Aldershot salerooms and simulcast online with video and audio to truly global audience.

We have an extensive customer base of international buyers at our specialised medical equipment auctions and have a direct private treaty sales program for global buyers and brokers. In addition, clients approach us with requests for specific equipment which we endeavour to satisfy.

We are set up to handle an individual item to a full hospital clearance including all fixed modality equipment, beds, furniture and associated items. These are all prepared and marketed appropriately to maximise returns for clients.

Please contact us today to discuss your inventory and how we can realise market-leading prices and maximise the return from your surplus and decommissioned equipment.
