New pathology partnership formed

Taunton & Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have formed a new partnership to provide pathology services with a full range of lab services for routine and non-urgent testing.

The joint venture is expected to last 20 years and the Trust’s medical staff will continue to provide clinical interpretation and advice. Essential tests will remain available on site but the third partner, Integrated Pathology Partnerships (iPP), already has plans underway to build the new laboratory.

Other trusts in the region could also join the collaboration in the future.

In a statement, Jo Cubbon, chief executive of Taunton & Somerset NHS FT, and Gavin Boyle, chief executive of Yeovil District Hospital NHS FT, said: “This is a good deal for the NHS. It enables both Yeovil andMusgroveParkHospitalsto benefit from greater investment in pathology which will help our patients for years to come.”

Geoff Searle, chief executive of iPP, said: “We are very excited about this opportunity to enhance and develop pathology services in the region through our partnership with the Trusts. Our collective vision is to build on what is already an excellent service and enhance this further by the contribution of iPP’s investment, expertise and experience.”
