Chief executive of struggling Lincolnshire trust takes NHSI role
The chief executive of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS FT will join NHS Improvement (NHSI) on secondment for six months in an advisory role on improving emergency care.
Karen Jackson’s new position will involve advising and supporting NHS Improvement’s leadership on urgent care, including on the emergency care improvement programme. Deputy chief executive Karen Dunderdale will take over as acting chief executive.
Under Jackson’s leadership, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole was removed from special measures by NHS Improvement’s predecessor, Monitor.
However, the CQC warned earlier this year that the trust is struggling to sustain the improvements and is still below recommended emergency and critical care staffing levels. It was also hit by a major cyber security attack in October.
Jackson said: “This secondment is an exciting opportunity for me to help shape a crucial piece of work that will have a positive impact on the quality of emergency care across the nation and to bring some new ideas back to the trust.
“I will of course miss working with my colleagues on the frontline and am immensely proud of the trust’s achievements in what have been extremely challenging times.”
Lyn Simpson, executive regional managing director at NHSI, added that as a chief executive of a major NHS organisation for over six years, “Karen Jackson has extensive experience of the complex urgent care environment”.
