NHS Providers calls for talk around credible solutions to adult social care

NHS Providers deputy chief executive, Saffron Cordery, has used the release of a new House of Lords economic affairs committee report to call for further talks around credible solutions to address the current difficulties in adult social care.

The Social care funding: time to end a national scandal report was released on 4 July, published by the Authority of the House of Lords.

Ms Cordery said: “This report by the House of Lords sets out why addressing the crisis in adult social care is more pressing than ever.

“This year, we have seen the proposed policy green paper delayed time after time. We cannot afford to wait any longer. It is clear that we must start talking about credible solutions and put in place action to deliver them.

“There is broad consensus around increasing social care funding and creating a fair and accessible system which protects the most vulnerable. How we pay for and deliver this is a political decision for government.

"Without addressing the social care challenge we risk devaluing every pound of investment in the NHS.”

“That is why NHS Providers is one of 15 health organisations in the Health for Care coalition, led by the NHS Confederation, calling for urgent action to put social care back on a sustainable footing in the upcoming spending review.”
