Sarah Wollaston re-elected as chair of the Health Select Committee

Dr Sarah Wollaston has been re-elected chair of the Health Select Committee in the House of Commons.

The Conservative MP for Totnes, Dr Wollaston ran unopposed for the position and so was automatically elected.

As committee chair, Dr Wollaston was one of a group of committee chairs who urged the prime minister to reach a cross-party agreement on the future of health and social care at the beginning of the year.

She was also instrumental in calling for personal, social and health education to be made mandatory in schools at the end of 2016.

The re-elected committee chair said: “I'm delighted to be returned as the chair and look forward to working with MPs from across the Commons on behalf of those who use health services now and in the future.”
