The rewards of reviews
Will publishing scores for GPs really help patients to make better choices about where they receive care? Greater transparency in this area will undoubtedly cause surgeries to attempt to improve their ranking and secure both patients and funding.
But the level of patient engagement is less clear. How many people would actually check NHS Choices before making an appointment?
Whilst quality of care is imperative, for many the decision on where to receive diagnosis is still largely down to practicalities such as the surgeries location or opening hours.
Additionally patient care should be catered to the individual, meaning one person’s experience could vastly differ from another’s.
It works for companies like Amazon and Ebay, but could this be effectively used for the health service?
