HEE to invest £10m to expand the NHS & care workforce
Health Education England (HEE) has announced it will invest £10m in funding to help support the growth of the clinical workforce, with the money going to expand the number of available placements for health and care courses.
People studying nursing, midwifery and selected allied health professions will benefit from the additional funding and number of placements, allowing further allocation of spaces.
The additional funding will work hand-in-hand with a previously-announced extension for universities to bid on healthcare course places, as well as helping the NHS achieve goals outlined in its manifesto and Long Term Plan to deliver an additional 50,000 nurses.
Wide-ranging placements across the health and care spectrum play a key role in giving students the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have gained in university studies to achieve the required competencies to register in their chosen profession and provide the best possible patient care.
Professor Mark Radford, Chief Nurse at Health Education England, said: “This is fantastic news in support of expanding healthcare workforce in collaboration with Universities.
“These additional placements will expand the pipeline of our future workforce, meaning more healthcare professionals across health and social care system.
“We will be working directly with universities, the NHS and other system providers to ensure the placements are provided in those areas of most need across the country.”
NHS Systems and Service providers, including social care, general practice and other providers, can bid for this money up until July 17, 2020 to allow them to support universities to expand their clinical course places placements.
