NHS Leadership Academy partners with GSK
The NHS Leadership Academy has announced a new partnership with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to deliver its fellowship programme.
Fellows from the Academy will have the opportunity to work for two days a week at the GSK office in Uxbridge for 12 months in the UK Pharmaceutical Healthcare Information team.
Three fellows started in November 2012, with a fourth to start this month.
The GSK team will draw insight from the NHS and social care landscape to develop their business and in a knowledge exchange the NHS fellows will improve their ability to work with the private sector.
Five commercial management trainees (CMTs) from GSK have joined NHS trusts around the country on secondment for two days a week over nine months.
Jan Sobieraj, managing director at the NHS Leadership Academy, said: “Both the Fellowship and the CMT scheme have been designed to embed leadership skills into the wider health and social care system. Our collaboration with GSK is a model of true partnership working between the NHS and the healthcare industry that will be crucial to delivering better health outcomes for patients in the coming years.”
Sue Middleton, VP Corporate and UK Government Affairs at GSK, added: “GSK and the NHS share a common goal – improving patient care. The Fellowship and the CMT schemes are an excellent opportunity for the public and private sector to learn from each other, share best practice and increase understanding in order to deliver on this goal.
“Both parties have a lot to gain and we are already hearing positive feedback from both the NHS fellows and the GSK CMTs involved in these schemes about the valuable insight that they are gleaning. We look forward to continuing these successful schemes for the benefit of the NHS, GSK and ultimately patients.”
