Ep 25. Exploring the best ways to implement digital innovation into our health sector

In the wake of the pandemic that hit our health sector heavily over the past two years, technology and digital innovation has become one of the largest focal points to tackling the most extensive patient backlog the sector has ever seen.

With trusts keen to improve their online compatibility for both the greater good of staff and patients, the drive for digital has become one where we are seeing daily changes to the system with at home digital care and e-consultations becoming the primary first port of call for millions of patients.

Former Chief Nurse at NHS Digital, Anne Cooper discusses her experiences of implementing digital ways of working into healthcare during her time with the NHS firstly as a nurse then then in her later role at NHS Digital.

On Episode 25 of NHS’s Finger on the Pulse podcast she said: “I spent a decade or more trying to persuade technologists that clinicians mattered to make decisions about the way we use technology”

“I spent a lot of time persuading nurses and doctors that technology was something that we could use for the benefit of patients, I was permanently going backwards and forwards between the technologists and the clinicians and trying to get each other’s point of views across”.

“I was really at the cusp of a new era for health and care around how we use digital technology”.
