Online PPE platform launched to continue providing protection for the workforce

The PPE Portal will allow the health and social care workforce and others who are eligible in England, to order personal protective equipment (PPE).

The new platform is managed by NHS Supply Chain and will take over the current system from the 4th April 2022.

The Portal will be open for use by:

  • GP’s
  • Adult and social care
  • Dentists
  • Orthodontists
  • Community pharmacies
  • Drug and alcohol services
  • Government departments
  • Local authorities
  • Independent sectors who carry out NHS work

Following a public consultation last month, it was announced that NHS trusts, primary care and adult social care providers will continue to have PPE provided to them for free until the 31st of March next year or until infection prevention and control guidance is amended significantly.

In a survey carried out by the Department for Health and Social Care, 96 percent of the 446 respondents said they were either ‘very satisfied’ and ‘satisfied’ with the new website, which promotes a more user-friendly interface than the current system used.

The new platform will also make it easier for users to place orders and track their deliveries as well as viewing in order limits.

All eligible users have received emails about the switch to the new platform and can ask questions directly through the platform for more information on the migration.
