The NHS and wider healthcare sector is set to benefit from a new net zero dashboard that will help them demonstrate the progress being made in the journey to cut carbon emissions.
The innovation – a culmination of efforts from the Independent Healthcare Providers Network and the Association of British Insurers – will help providers fulfill their reporting requirements to both private medical insurers and NHS England.
Streamlined reporting
“With climate change representing the biggest global threat of our times, we are committed to supporting our members in whatever way we can to help the sector reduce their carbon emissions,” said the IHPN’s CEO, David Hare.
“We are therefore pleased to be collaborating with the ABI on this most important of issues – in working to streamline reporting requirements this will help ensure providers are able to get on with the important job of directly reducing their carbon footprint.”
The data dashboard is expected to make reporting easier for healthcare providers and remove the need for multiple different reporting templates.
Everyone plays their part
In 2021, the IHPN launched an industry-wide pledge for net zero emissions by 2035 as well as a net zero supply chain aim for 2045, which more than 80% of independent providers have signed up for.
The organisation’s net zero lead, Danielle Henry, said: “Working with the ABI on this issue, and seeing both independent providers and insurers get around the table to agree a way forward to how we can most effectively demonstrate the sector’s progress in achieving net zero, has been a real privilege.
“We can only successfully respond to the global climate change threat if everyone plays their part and we hope this dashboard will make a real difference and help the sector in progressing on its net zero journey.”
