Doctors’ protests against funding reductions
The BMA has launched a campaign against cuts to general practice funding in Northern Ireland averaging £15,000 per surgery.
It has issued a petition and posters highlighting the £5m cut since August.
Dr Brian Dunn, who chairs the BMA’s General Practitioner Committee in Northern Ireland, said: “We have previously highlighted this blatant cut to an essential frontline health service and are worried about the consequences. GPs want to be able to continue to treat patients in a safe, adequately funded environment, but patients need to be aware that one of the most important services available to them is under threat.”
He said patients and doctors must “work together” to keep standards high.
The BMA in Northern Ireland is also investigating how funding is being affected at each practice via surveys.
