Health Education England appoint new Non-Executive Director

Dr Harpreet Sood has been welcomed onto the Health Education England board as a new Non-Executive Director (NED).

Working as an NHS GP in London, Dr Sood also previously served as an associate NED with Health Education England.

He is in particular an expert in digital health, having been the co-founder and Strategic Advisor to the NHS Digital Academy and brings with him to the new role a wealth of experience at the interface of healthcare and digital technology.

Previously, Dr Sood also worked as the Associate Chief Clinical Information Officer at NHS England where he was involved in developing and implementing NHS England’s digital health and data strategy. Prior to that, he was Senior Fellow to the CEO of NHS England.

As Health Education England’s newest Non-Executive Director, Dr Sood’s new role will involve providing independent advice, support and scrutiny, working with senior officials within the organisation on key policy decisions.

Speaking of his appointment, Dr Sood said: “I am delighted to become a non-executive director with HEE at this inflection point for the NHS.

“Particularly given that digital technology is of such importance to the workforce and can provide real opportunities to make a difference and enhance patients’ lives.”

Sir David Behan, Chair of Health Education England, added: “Harpreet has recent experience of training in addition to substantial experience of national and international health care policy, and a demonstrable history of working on the front line with patients.

“This experience and his knowledge of digital technology brings added value to the HEE Board.”

Dr Sood also brings a wealth of past experience leading on national strategies and reviews within the NHS, having collaborated previously with organisations both domestic and international – including in the USA and Asia.
